ease with customs (Ireland/England)

by MaryNH »

we've only traveled between countries twice, and customs lines were awful (even though we don' tbuy much). we're thinking of a trip US to Ireland to 2 days in London to 2 days in Iceland to US.  are the brief stops in london and iceland worth any long lines? thanks.

Ireland and London are both in the EU, so you won't encounter customs lines in the flights between those cities. I think the bigger issue, though, is whether you're going to get much out of your time in country, once you factor in getting to and from airports. I'm just worried that you're going to spend too much of your time traveling and not enough time enjoying with this itinerary.

Thank you, that's great news. ...We know our travel style differs from many- we focus on the visual more than experiential- but it suits us well at this point.

another related question? if we stop in iceland on the way to the USA, would we need to go through customs in London or Keflavik- or just when we arrive in America? (as you can see, most of our travel is domestic!)

Are you concerned about passport control/immigration check or declaring items/purchases you made while traveling?

it's the time and hassle. - i have a valid USA passport. we won't buy much, but we will get some souveniers and Irish soil.
