Australia and New Zealand

by Travelmaria47 »

I have found it very easy to travel around on my own- and saved a lot of money doing it this way!

airbnb, cairnsdiscountholidayhouse.com and booking.com have all been great for finding affordable accommodations. Hiring a camper van is also a great way to see a lot at your own pace!

A good tour site I used was discoveraustralia.com.au and If you make it up to Cairns look up cairnsdiscounttours.com- I've gotten incredible rates through them!

Best of luck!

Hi All,

Need advice! A good 3 week escorted tour of Australia and New Zealand. Collette reviews run hot and cold. Tauck is very expensive but has anyone taken it? Please advise.

  Thanks,

  Beth

I have not been to NZ yet (excited to get there in 3 weeks though) but have spent 2 months in Australia. If you like city life, Sydney and Melbourne are great...a weekend in Sydney was enough for me but I did spend 5 weeks in Melbourne. Really neat city, but just that a city!

I have spent 3 weeks in Cairns and it's incredible. The rainforest and Great Barrier Reef at your fingertips! I did a week in the city with an Airbnb and 2 weeks at this amazing little tropical oasis, Villa Marine. I highly recommend coming up this way- such a great representation of the real Australia!

We too are considering Australia and New Zealand and are thinking of doing it independently. Frankly, New Zealand interests me more of the two. Would it make sense to do three weeks in New Zealand and then just a week seeing, say, Sydney and Melbourne?

Thanks Sean. I'd say that what to take away from this discussion is: give two weeks to EITHER New Zealand or Australia. You'll get more out of the trip that way.

  • I think you must go for these
  • Explore Te Puia, a Maori cultural and geothermal experience.
  • Enjoy intimate wine tastings in the famous Marlborough wine region.
  • Relish a breathtaking cruise through Milford Sound fjord.
