Lost a Thread? A way to recover it

by Travel Rob »

Did you lose a thread  that had some info you wanted to save? Here is one idea,

Go toYahoo Search, input some keywords and then click on Cached. Not perfect ,but  one still can retrieve some threads  from the dead. Now the cached pages will only last a few weeks,so do that as soon as possible

If that doesn't work, ask your question again and I'm sure the fellow members will answer again.Maybe it will even be better advice than the first time.

You can also search Cached on the different search engines,Bing, Google etc. And it really depends what kewords you type what threads pop up.I normally type a city name,  a member I'm looking for ,and Frommers.com. While some Cached have disappeared others are still left .

I looked up the thread you reference, and only the first three entries are there.  Is the rest of it available, and if so how do you get to it?

I looked up that thread on Bing just now and got the rest of the page,Different search engines have different saved Cached items. What's a problem is finding threads that are more than one page. It's hard to find those threads if you dont know some keywords on page( two etc). It's not a perfect method, but while the saved cached is there, it's worth looking up. So far I've found more saved stuff on Bing. than the others.

How do you search Cached?  I'd prefer to know how to do it on Google, as it seems to find things Yahoo doesn't.

Google and Bing recover the Cached threads the same way..After you put in your keywords in the search, you will get something like this

First time to Provence! in Frommers.com General and Multi-Country ...

www.frommers.com › Community › Forums?

But after Forums(on the second line) there will be an arrow, click on that arrow  and up will pop Cached and click on that.

I tried to look up this thread on Google so I could re-post it

How to Spend 3 Days in Bologna - Frommers

www.frommers.com/community/forum.cfm/europe/.../spend-3-days-bolog...

but when google popped up the link, it didn't offer me a cached option, but instead gave me this text:

A description for this result is not available because of this site's robots.txt – learn more.

I clicked on the "learn more" link, and got this:

http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=156449

Can somebody explain what this means?

Also, is there any way to retreive that Bologna thread?

That means it's already been erased from the Google Cached page, which I am noticing more and more. It looks like the window is closing very quickly now

"About the trip I took to the incredibly beautiful Val d'Aosta in ..."

When I just checked that thread was on the Cached page of Bing and Yahoo Search. The only bad thing is the photos aren't saved. We did save a lot of threads and a lot of posts. It's just reposting them is going to be a challenge. We have managed though to send the files of what we have to the people that have asked.

By the way, why is Google erasing this material?
