Berlin to Dresden in December?

by geena »

Hello, Does anyone have any advice for getting from Berlin to Dresden?  I will be in Berlin in Dec for the Christmas markets, and would like to take a side trip to Dresden to see the Christmas market, and some of the sites.  Is the train from Berlin safe?  Does the train let you off in a convenient area of Dresden?  Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions!

Not sure what you mean by safe. Trains are the normal mode of transportation in Europe, everybody uses them, young and old, and the safety record is astounding, you'd be more likely to win the lottery than to be hurt in a train accident.

Berlin-Dresden takes two hours on the fast train, and if you look up Dresden Hauptbahnhof on a map you'll see how it is in a central location.

www.bahn.de gets you the timetables (Hbf is short for Hauptbahnhof which means "main central station")

Thank you!

(By safe, I meant are the train stations safe, ie, in a decent location. )

In a word, yes.

But, always take the precautions you would take in a crowded transit hub anywhere.
