Hi, we are arrving in Munich in September and want to drive to Basel through beautiful scenery, castles, lakes, etc.  We have 3 1/2 days.  Any suggestions? Thank you

With 3-1/2 days to make the drive, I'd suggest going south from Munich to Austria via either Garmisch or Fuessen, avoiding expressways as much as you can.  Each day's drive won't be very long--for example, you could spend one night in Garmisch or in the Fuessen/Schwagau area.  One in a town on the Silvretta High Alpine Road.  And one night one in a place like Bregenz, Austria or Sankt Gallen, Switzerland. Each of the actual daily, on-the-road driving times should be under 3 hours, but you could make many stops at interesting sights along the way and take as much time as you wanted to get from place to place each day.

Of course, there are other ways to do it, but if you like a classic road trip, this would work.
