First trip to Greece. Where?

by /bio/frvrtrvlng »

Hey!

A couple of my friends and I are considering Greece as our summer destination. We want to rent a car and drive around some islands and enjoy the sun. As we're planning this one week in July, could you advise if we're making a terrible mistake choosing this destination and should consider something further North?

Another question, we're torn between 1. choosing one island, like Corfu (although I heard it's not as nice as you'd expect) and maybe taking a ferry to Albania (as villas there are super cheap)

2. Flying to Athens and then taking ferries and exploring different islands like Mykonos and Santorini.

.... or

3. Should we just stick to the mainland and drive around there?

It boils down to how much you love to be in the sun... I guess if you prepare for it in advance a.k.a have sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, appropriate light wear, then you could enjoy your time there even in hot conditions. On avg, in July you could expect degree bars to raise up to 27°C (81°F).

Regarding your destination of choice, the first option is cheaper but you will see less of Greece and I thought that was the point of your trip.
