Which are the best of the home exchange clubs?

And has anyone done it? I guess my real question is: is it safe. It sounds like a great idea, but I'd be worried about my stuff. Do people have to buy extra insurance who travel this way?

I've done several home exchanges through HomeExchange.com and think it's a wonderful and wonderfully personal way to travel. We didn't get extra insurance, though we do send friends over to check on our guests and make sure they're okay (so I guess that's kind of like insurance). We've found that by the time you get to the actual swap, you've exchanged so many emails that you feel like you know the people. It's a big money saver, too.

I've just moved into a "normal" sized house after living for years in a tiny place.  So I've been thinking lately that home exchanges might be an option for me now.  And I've had similar thoughts, what about my very personal stuff?  My current thinking is this.  The house has a sort of guest part, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom that, along with the living room and kitchen, seem less personal to me.  So I think what I may do is simply lock my bedroom with it's ensuite bathroom and have the rest available for exchanges.  As long as it's presented as a 2 bedroom house I suspect it wouldn't be a problem and I'd feel more secure.  What do you who have done exchanges think?
