I have an opportunity to go to Iceland in March

Will it still be crazy cold then? What about the Northern Lights. Wondering if anyone's been at that time of year and whether it's worth it. Thanks!

You'll be a little past the absolute best time for Northern Lights, but that doesn't mean you won't see them if the sky is clear enough. One of the easy ways is to take an evening Northern Lights bus tour; the companies involved (we used Reykjavik Expeditions http://re.is) will cancel for the night if the weather isn't working, or give you a second shot free if the tour goes out and no lights.

As for the weather...Iceland is a bit more temperate than you may be expecting, at least along the south (including Reykjavik). The climate is more like New York than North Pole. I grew up believing that it was because of the Gulf Stream, but although I'm now told that's wrong...nevertheless the weather is tolerable!

Northern Lights viewing is a matter of luck.  But PHeymont is right.  While the weather won't be balmy, with a good warm jacket it won't bother you.

And the recommendation of seeing them in a tour is excellent!

I was in Iceland in early April and thought it was just spectacular and only a tiny bit cold (bring layers). If its not too late to post this, I'd say go most definitely!
