Oh no! I think the forum accidentally deleted the entire A Wine Geek thread!
I was answering AWG, and hit the "post" button, and after I did and my response was posted to the thread, I noticed I had mistakenly repeated a couple of sentences twice. So I copied the post and then deleted it -- and it appears to have deleted the whole thread!!!
I'll see if I can get to the forum managers to salvage it. In the meantime, here is my response to AWG
I try to use Emirates every single time I fly to the US, partly because I think their service is so good but mainly because their westward bound flight out of Milan doesn't depart until mid-afternoon, which means I don't need to spend the night in Milan (or get up at the crack of dawn anywhere). Equally nice for me is that the Emirares eastward bound flight to Milan leaves JFK around 10pm, and arrives in Milan around noon. I head for a hotel after arriving on an eastbound transatlantic flight in Europe, so the noon arrival means my hotel room is likely to be ready immediately.
I wouldn't mind seeing Albany again. I only went once a zillion years ago on a political protest, leaving within a few hours, and that was before the huge Rockefeller project was complete. I hear the city is underrated and of course the surrounds are beautiful. Stopping in Albany might be a way to break up a long journey between Burlington and NYC. I'm trying to lean on train travel or very short car jaunts because I suspect my travel dates will be early April, which I've heard can still be fairly stormy and icy in that part of the world. Fortunately, I can "pad" extra time between destinations so I'm can wait out a storm if need be. .
