When to visit Florence

by philladwig »

My wife and I are planning a 10-day trip to Florence next year.  We will also have 2 days in Rome and day trips from Florence in Tuscany.  We were thinking either late September/early October, or late March/early April.  We would sure apprectiate advice.

My wife and I have been to Florence five times - four the last week in April and once the second week in October. The weather was fine each time. In late April, the highs are in the low 70s or high 60s. It was about the same in October, but we'd give a slight edge to spring. We're going a sixth time later this month, and the anticipated highs are in the 70s.

I would only add that if you can avoid holidays like Easter or the Italian national holiday of April 25, that cuts down on crowds.  Even if you go in a relatively uncrowded perion in spring or fall, it is good to make reservations for tickets to see the most popular sights.

Florence can be visited every month of the year, literally.

Your chosen months are perfect, you'll avoid the hot Italian summer and the crowd of tourists.

As of today (9/18), the forecast for Florence next week is for a day or two just over 80 and the rest of the time in the high 70s. Rain is possible a couple of days, but not probable (according to Accuweather). We're also going to Venice, and it is expected to be 8-10 degrees cooler there.
