Tokyo and Kyoto or just Tokyo?

by /bio/billiv »

I don't think Kyoto is more interesting than Tokyo.  They are different from each other, but it just depends on your interests as to which you would find more interesting. We spent 4 days in Tokyo and 3 in Kyoto and wish we'd had more time in both places.

Heading to Japan on biz for the first time and was thinking of adding on about 5 days. I'll be in Tokyo for meetings for 3 days first, and doubt I'll have much time to tour around. But friends who have been say that Kyoto is more interesting than Tokyo and that I should go there, instead of staying for more Tokyo. Would love to hear from anyone who has been. Many thanks for your advice.

I actually think Kyoto is a bit more accessible for visitors. The temples and castle are exquisite, it's fascinating to see the Geishas on the streets and the size is a bit more manageable. That's not to say there isn't a lot to see and do in Tokyo, but you may get to see a lot before and after your business meetings. I would suggest, as your friends did, that you go to Kyoto.
