New Year in Boston- restaurants?

by rosie »

Hello

We will be in Boston for New Year staying near Copley Square. Is New Year a big celebration in Boston?  Any suggestions for a good restaurant for New Year's Eve dinner which is also my husband's 60th birthday.  Not over the top expensive but good food with a "Boston flavour". Any comments on the City Table restaurant at the Lenox Hotel?

thanks for your suggestions.

New Year's Eve is a huge celebration in Boston.  The city has something called First Night.  Parts of the city gets shut down.  I cannot comment, unfortunately, on good restaurants there as I have not frequented many restaurants.  If I were you, I'd google "First Night" New Year's Eve Boston" so that you can read up on it.  You will have to get a hotel sooner rather than later.

Fanueil Hall Marketplace is a great place to visit--there are a lot of little restaurants in there.  Oh, if Durgin Park is still there it's was a great seafood place when I had gone there a long time ago.  If you like Italian food, there's lots of Italian restaurants, there's Chinatown also.

Purchase Frommer's Guide to Boston--there will be lots of info in there.  You could also get info from the Chamber of Commerce in Boston.  I know nothing about the restaurant at the Lenox Hotel.  The Boylston Street area (where the Boston Marathon ends) has numerous restaurants also.

Have fun!  Boston is a great town.

First night is the way to go, in terms of celebrations. As for restaurants, I hgihly recommend Franklin Cafe. Really terrific food and casual, but nice atmosphere. You'll need to check to make sure that it's open New Years though.

Our Boston Day by Day guide 2014 will be in bookstores in a few weeks, and you'll find a lot of good suggestions in that.
