New Zealand tips

by Dealan »

I'm planning to go to New Zealand in September for at least 3 weeks. I am just beginning my planning.

I know that I want to go to hot springs and the fjords. Beyond that I'm totally open to suggestion.

We can do short hikes and as a photographer I'd like to get some good images.

We do like to relax when we travel so suggestions for comfortable places to stay would be great.

Also we are flying from Hawaii and I'm wondering if there is an island where we can stay mid-trip, or are non-stops the way to go? Which airlines are the best?

We'd like to rent our own car and drive ....is this advisable?

Here is top 5 locations to visit in New Zealand.

1. Milford Sound- "eighth wonder of the world", beautiful majestic peaks and dark blue waters

2. Tongariro National park - has a rugged, volcanic landscape that is known for its surprises and extremes

3. Auckland - spend at least a day or two in Auckland. Take a stroll through the 185-acre Auckland Domain park, there are also many multicultural bars and restaurants serving up all types of cuisine.

4. Lake Rotoiti - is famous for great trophy-sized trout fishing, a number of different world-class water sports activities, and the Rotoiti Hot Pools, a hidden gem, but you can get access there by Macboats boat, for instance.

5. Te Puia- the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute located in Rotorua's Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley. It is also home to a number of active geysers, including Pohutu, the largest active geyser in the southern hemisphere.
