I live in Peru and one of the difficulties that I usually see in visiting Cusco is how to book the tickets for Machu Picchu?
Here I'd like to share some advices:
*Go to the site: www.machupicchu.gob.pe and find availability for your visit.
*I suggest to get them at least 1 month before your depart, however if you want to climb the Huayna Picchu mountain, I'd be better to get them 3 months before, since there are only 500 places day, and they easily are sold out.
*I you want to book your tickets online you should use a VISA card since it's the only card the systema accepts.
*Remember that you can combine your tickets with climbing, the Huayna Picchu mountain, Machu Picchu muntain and the Sun gate, there are only 2 groups you can choose, at 7:00 am & 10:00 am.

I'll be more than happy to help
I am planning on doing both hikes. Do you have any advice as to whether to do them over the course of 2 serparate days, or the same day? And is it better to do the 7am or 10am hike to Huayna Picchu? This is for travel in late August. thank you!
Thank you for your message.
Yes, I recommend you do both hikes over the course of 2 separate days, one for climbing Huayna Picchu and the other to climb Machu Picchu mountain. That means that you would need to book 2 different tickets for 2 different dates. The other reason you can't hike both on the same day, is because access is only at 7:00 am and 10:00 am and you won't hardly be able to be back from the first hike before 10:00 am. (hiking time: for Huayna Picchu mountain about 1h15'. For Machu Picchu Mountain abouut 2h30').
Regarding what time is better, I'd say it depends. The advantage of climbing at 7:00 am is that you can stay longer, however there could be clouds covering the landscape in the morning. Other advantage is that you can have enough time to visit the temple of the moon on your way back. If you decide to climb at 10:00 am you might already have a nice view and have already visited the citadel before. In both cases tourists must return before 1:00 pm.
I hope to have replied your enquiry. If you have further questions don't hesitate to contact me: firstname.lastname@example.org
I thing you must visit this website https://www.ticket-machupicchu.com.Have a nice experience in Peru, don't hesitate to reply if you need further information.
Yeah, you can definitely use the Ministry of Culture website, but I find it clunky. On top of that, you also need to arrange transportation to and from Machu Picchu. I find it better myself when I used a tour guide.
However, Cachi Life has a full detailed guide with a step-by-step video explaining how to buy your tickets yourself if you choose.
