Tip for staying in San Juan

For those wishing to stay in the city of San Juan, what area of town do you suggest? Are there restaurants you can recommend, and if you stayed in the city, which beaches did you use?

Just returned from San Juan (May 4 to May 10)  Stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan.   Great location.   Across the street from where the cruise ships dock.  Everything in Old San Juan it within walking distance.  Also free tram with two stops near hotel.  Lots to do and see.  Restaurants too numerous to mention.  However Manolin was the best for Puerto Rican food.   Mofongo to die for.  Also the least expensive restaurant we ate at.  Also Istanbul for great shish ka bob.  Visit the forts.   Tram takes you there..   Also took a tour of the Rainforest.  Quite enjoyable.   Did not go to any beaches as not our interest.

Lot of hotels on the beach not near Old San Juan.  Transportation needed.  Also not much to do around beach hotels!  Almost forgot.  Sheraton has a small casino.

Good hotel, Great city, most enjoyable trip.

Puerto Rico has  lots of beutiful beaches  but the best are away from the "city"

isla verde is pretty good..

but I will suggest a day trip to Luquillo  or Dorado or Rincon, Boqueron..

a day trip to  El Yunque

you do not want to venture into the island  take the  ferry to Vieques....
