Barcelona advice, please

by winanne »

My son and I are going to be in Barcelona the first two weeks of October, celebrating my 75th birthday. We have rented an apartment a few blocks from Plaza de Cataluña. Now, we would like any suggestions re: best ways to avoid the crowds for top attractions (buy tickets online? book a tour?); day trips from Barcelona via train or bus (we will not have a car); any favorite things that we may have missed in the guidebooks -- and -- has anyone traveled happily in Spain while keeping to (at least more or less) a paleo diet?

Thanks for any suggestions you may have!

Thanks very much, Billy. We're hoping to enjoy the city and take several day trips - Montserrat sounds like a "must-do".

I'm pretty much an omnivore, so I didn't particularly note paleo or other types of diets. But Barcelona does have a wide variety of restaurants available, so I would think you should be able to keep pretty much any sort of diet you want.

Many people enjoy the day trip to Montserrat.  And wWe really enjoyed the Gaudi sites in Barcelona--especially Sagrada Familia and Park Guell.  Barcelona was not our favorite city to visit by a long shot, but it does have some quality sights.

We just got back from a wonderful trip to Spain with an amazing guide! She does consulting too so she could probably help you. Her website is www.tourguideinspain.com  and her name is Kelly O'Donnell. Her email is odkelly2002@yahoo.com

Our trip would never have been the same if we hadn't hired her!!!
