The State Department issued this recently and I just wanted to bring it to everyone's attention: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_1764.html

That travel warning is only for one small section of the country and it's a section where tourists don't tend to go. I wouldn't have any fears about going to Turkey. And it's a spectacular country to visit.

Take it with a grain of salt. Turkey remains safe and has the most wonderful people in the world. I wouldn't worry about going there.

We were in Turkey last year and had a fantastic time doing East and West Turkey which are really two different tours.  East Turkey is more historical and examples of Old Traditional Turkey.  West Turkey is a bit more modern but still conservative with so many beautiful places to visit.  We did two tours back to back taking 6 weeks but enjoyed every minute of it.   I have a Turkish friend who has a Turkey Tour company that is fantastic and takes only small groups of 12 or less.   Check their web site at www.treasuresoftravel.com   This year we did Turkistan and Uzbecistan with them which is part of the Old Soviet Union.  Again, a great tour too.   He is over there now....Oct. 26th and we hear from him that all is well.

The warning is for Southeastern Turkey ... not the entire country. This area is adjacent to Syria and Iraq.

There is no nationwide advisory in effect for Turkey. However, you should exercise a high degree of caution due to crime, the threat of terrorist attacks, and ongoing demonstrations throughout the country.
