Help with London, Bath, Cotswolds, Oxford trek

by MattandAnne624 »

Hello all,

My husband and I are planning a trip to London for a family event and will arrive from the US on Wed, July 4th. We have never been to England, so we are staying long enough to make it a worthy trip. We fly home on the evening of Sat, July 14th (out of London).  Our current plan is to stay in London until Monday, the 9th, at which time we will take the train to Bath. We have booked a room for 2 nights in Bath. One of the highlights of the entire trip will be seeing Henry V while there! On Wed. the 11th, we plan to rent a car and strike out for Chipping Campden. If we can find accommodations (having some problems with that), we want to stay the night and then head to Stow-on-the-Wold the next day (Thurs). We were then going to stay the night in Stow, and head to Oxford for Fri., spend the night there, and then back to London Sat. morning.

I know that Rick Steves and some posters here have recommended starting such a trip in Bath and finishing up in London, but that is not possible due to our family commitments. And since we have already purchased tickets to Henry V, I think our Bath dates are set as well. I'm hoping to get some feedback on whether this seems feasible? I feel a little uncertain about those last 3 days traveling to Cotswolds and Oxford before heading back to London.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks,
Anne

We are trying the same thing, although in reverse and with a little less time, later in July.  I look forward to hearing your plans...we start by renting a car in London for a 2 hr drive to Warwick Castle, where we're staying the night in one of the lodges on the grounds, then driving through the Cotswolds the next day to Bath, where we're staying one night. We plan to hang aorund in Bath all day before heading back to London late that night.  The only thing we haven't figured out is the car rental.  Good luck!

Hi Buddy!

Well, we've changed our plans a little since I first posted. We are now arriving London on Tues, 3rd of July. We will stay there until Mon, 7/9, when we leave for Bath for a 2-night stay. We will then go to Chipping Camden, where we will stay 2 nights, using it as our base as we explore Cotswold. We leave for Oxford on the 13th and will spend the night there one night, dropping the car off there. On the 14th, we will take the train back to London and head to the airport.

We are very excited, and I will try to get my trip report posted in time for it to be of some use to you.

Good Luck and Safe Travels,

Anne

Might I suggest taking a detour & traveling to Exmoor? I would just take around 2 hours if you are traveling by car. It is such a beautiful place with natural beauty & so many activities to do. Fining an accommodation won't be a problem there. You can easily rent holiday cottages there. Exmoor is also a dark spot with very less light pollution & the view of the night sky is amazing there. It is a must go place for stargazers.
