What is there to do in Stowe, Vermont during the summer months?

A friend has suggested it as a destination, which surprised me as I always thought of it as a place for skiing. Is it worthwhile in summer?

I live in Vermont (Burlington) and thought it surprises most folks, the state gets more visitors in summer than winter. Maybe that's because the snow isn't as consistent as it used to be. But Stowe is a really cute town, with a great bike path, lots of hiking opportunities, the Von Trapp Family Lodge (for Sound of Music fans) and it's near to all the fun stuff in Burlington (be sure you visit the wonderful Shelburne Museum while you're in the area). So I'd highly recommend it in summer, actually. Have fun in my home state!

We also visit Vermont in the Summer months There are so many outdoor activities to do, including biking, hiking, tennis, golf. It is absolutely magnificent.  If you have a family with young children, you might want to check out Smuggler's Notch.  A great family resort with a kids club so you can golf or play tennis.  I would also suggest trying out a really neat place called Pizza on Earth about 10 miles from Burlington.  It's a farm with a pizza shed using the most fresh ingredients.  I also recommend A Single Pebble for dinner in Burlington.  Have fun!

There's a wonderful biking/hiking path in Stowe, that we enjoyed while there. And if you're up for it, a hike up Mt. Mansfield is terrific. You might enjoy just getting some spa treatments and relaxing while there. It's a beautiful place to visit.

There are summer activities not too far Stowe - Stowe glider rides are cool.  Wander over to Waterbury (Ben & Jerry's, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, The Alchemist (for beer lovers). Better yet, consider staying in the Northeast Kingdom of VT (near St Johnsbury / Waterford area).  This would get you to tons great activities like guided ATV tours, kayaking trips, lake Willoughby & Crystal Lake, biking on the Kingdom Trails, awesome brewery tours,  St. Johnsbury golf course, guided fishing trips, Cabot Cheese Factory, Grand View Winery,  If you're in Waterford area -  you're also close to the White Mountains area. Go zipling, and explore Franconia Notch State park. Lots of amazing hiking too.
