Always Wanted to See Angkor Wat

by /bio/lzein412 »

I've heard great things about Flight of the Gibbon and they're opening a new location in Angkor!

In Response to Always Wanted to See Angkor Wat:[QUOTE]

Should I just duck into Cambodia to see that, or are there more sights worth seeing there? I'll be in Asia for about two weeks. Thanks for your help.

HI TravelandNature: I don't see the thread you said I should see. Can you repost? But thanks to the rest for the info.

Other than Angkor Wat, We went to see Tuol Sleng Museum, The Royal Palace, The KIlling Fields, and a few temples.

I don't think it's a place where you spend a lot of time on. Although it would require you at least three days to see all of Angkor Wat - maybe two days if you go around by tuk tuk.

I have photos and trip report if you're interested:

Hi Alice, Angkor Wati s fabulous but  overrun by tourists; make sure you visit before dawn; you will need a guide to get around before it is impossible to see the temples. Siem Riep is a touristy island in a country that does not have that many tourists and although the country is still trying to recover from it's horrible recent past, it has a lot to offer. I think that Phnom Penh is particularly charming and so if you want to get away from the hoards to see Indochina then go there!

Hi guys,

There are many things to see/ do in Cambodia which you should not miss

-  Angkor complex (5*): there is enough said about this.

- War museum along Airport Road (4.5*) : 5$ entrance fee

- Angkor National Museum (4.5*): this is a world class museum, with ear phones, high quality videos presented in several languages (you can choose).

- Tonle Sap (4*): see a whole village floating on water. Church, temple, basket ball court, supermarket, school, shops, etc. Each on a floating platform.

- Silk farm (4*): this is 16 km out of town. See the whole production process from mulberry tree plantation, baby silk worms, fat silk worms feeding on mulberry leaves, spinning cocoons, boiling silk cocoons, extracting the silk threads, dying threads, hand weaving into lovely silk cloth, and an outlet selling silk products.

Or you could experience yourself by some other things like: Take a tuk tuk  to downtown Siem Reap, shopping at Sieam Reap night market, even eat a sprider, visiting the Killing Field (Cheung Ek)/ Royal Palace/ Silver pagoda -Phnom Penh...

Food: very delicious. Does not have the fiery hotness like Thai. Less refined than Vietnamese food. But still very yummy. Curry is sweetish. Beef Stew (Khor Ko) is to die for. Prices are reasonable. US$3 - $4 per dish.
