Is 6 Days in Hanoi Too Many?

by /bio/gonefishing »

I have a friend in the city who I'll be visiting, but I do want to see other parts of Vietnam, too. Am balancing being polite against my own wanderlust, I guess. I'm worried I'll get bored after three days there, though I will have a local showing me around, which is always good.

My philosophy is the longer you stay somewhere, the more you really get to know it. And if you have a local showing you around, you're golden! Hanoi is a fascinating city with amazing food. Just be careful crossing the street--the traffic has no structure whatsover so you just have to step out and hope somebody stops.

Six days is most assuredly NOT too many days to stay in Hanoi.  I spent more than 2 weeks there several months ago and would happily have stayed much longer if I hadn't promised to meet a friend in Bangkok.  It's a fascinating place and you're lucky to have a friend there so do take full advantage of it.  If you find your enthusiasm flagging you can easily take a day trip outside the city.  But as Salina says, the longer you stay in a place the better you know it and from my point of view the more fascinating it becomes.  Don't let wanderlust deprive you of a great experience.

Hey jonhadny,

I think you should go for it. 6 days are enough to visit this place and enjoy.

I think 2 or 3  days is enough to visit Hanoi. The balace time, you can visit other place near Hanoi. You can choose Sapa or Ha Long Bay.

Yes. It can make you bored. With 6 days you can spent 2 days to visit Halong Bay, 1 days to visit Hoa Lu - Tam Coc and 2 days to visit Sapa (option). or spent 2 days to discover Hanoi: Westlake, Hoan Kiem lake, old quarter, enjoy beer in Ta Hien street.

I think you should add either Sapa or Halong Bay to your itinerary. 6 day for just Hanoi seems to be a bit wasted.
