Liz Albertson takes you inside this chilly Canadian festival.
Cross-country fares have now gone well below silly levels. As we've been reporting over the past few weeks, several airlines have been battling to offer $158 fares from New York and Boston to California and Phoenix. Now ATA is going even lower, and throwing in some great fares to the Midwest to boot. Meanwhile, Aloha and Hawaiian heat things up in the West with some super-low fares to Hawaii.
You may have heard about the Chautauqua of yesteryear, a kind of county fair of education and uplift, with a weekend of lectures, workshops and seminars, but nary a scary ride in sight. It's back from February 26 through March 7, relocated to sunny DeFuniak Springs in Florida's Panhandle -- and you could end up being paid a little something to participate.
Northeasterners should be used to snow by now, so there's no reason to fear Eastern Europe in the winter. The super-low fares we've been seeing from Finnair and Austrian Airlines are making it worth braving the cold in these inexpensive, exotic destinations -- you'll save hundreds on airfare over summer rates.

From Eric Alan Jones: "I know of one school that trains people in 'mid-life transition' who wish to be travel planners, Travel University of San Diego. Does anyone know of any others on the west coast or in Southern California?"
From Elizabeth Curran: "I went into www.playbill.com as Frommer's had suggested that, for half-price theatre tix. I called the toll-free number and actually got through to a 'live' person. She asked me if I had a code. Of course I didn't know what she was talking about. Does anyone know anything about this discount code? Apparently one can get these tickets without standing in line or waiting until the day of the performance, and that is at various other theatre cities. I am interested in the musical Chicago. I would appreciate any advice as this will be my first time in NYC."
From TLP: "My wife and I went to Malta in Oct, 2003 with a travel package from Academic tours. There's quite a lot to see and do -- at least enough to fill 2 or 3 weeks. Here are some observations."
From red rock blue sky: "My husband and I already had safety concerns about traveling independently in Jamaica. We thought we could deal with the issues by choosing our destination carefully. We did want to do some diving. I said 'did' want to do some diving until I read an article in the Jamaican newspaper, the Jamaica Gleaner."
From Anita Shagena: "We will be in Salzburg and Vienna this summer. Do you have restaurant recommendations for either or both cities? What are the local specialties?"
