One of Europe's most beautiful capitals, Prague, is still less expensive than its better-known capital sisters. It's long since dried out from last spring's horrific floods; heck, it even survived Sean Connery, who filmed The League of Extraordiary Gentlemen there. Several autumn packages from competing tour operators have started popping up to get you there.
A cell phone can be invaluable on a foreign trip. Not only can it let you keep in touch with the babysitter, the cat-sitter, the house-sitter and your boss, it can help you book restaurants and get in touch with that cool guy you met on the Paris-Rome Express.
The exit to Lake George, the always-popular upstate New York summer destination, spans half a mile on the highway, and the restaurants and parking lot lines are almost as long. For a less stressful alternative, consider Killington,Vermont just an hour east.

From Heather Stephens: "I will be traveling cross-country this spring and summer and would like to be able to rent some books on tape and return them and get new ones while I am on my road trip. Does anyone know places I can do this?"
From Arlene Harris: "We had a long thread a while back about how difficult it is to pay double on cruises as a solo traveler. Well thanks to someone online I found a website www.yourowncabin.com from CruisesOnly. For $19.99 you get a six month subscription to cruises with minimal supplements for singles. They are definitely worth the money."
From susan l: "We recently returned from a fabulous trip to Portugal. We stayed in Lisbon for 3nights and Caiscais for 5 nights. If you can afford it, the Hotel Albatroz is a terrific place to stay, overlooking the water. We also went to Sintra (a day trip) which is another place not to miss."
From Philip Monk: "We made a day trip to Tijuana during our stay last week in San Diego. What a mistake! What a depressing experience!"
