With Christmas less than four weeks away, shoppers are in high gear ticking off items on lists as long as your arm. Gift buying doesn't have to be a chore, though, if you make it an excuse for a road trip to some of the nation's most urbane yet offbeat shopping venues.
Tahiti, Fiji, Moorea. No longer are these destinations to just dream about. With winter airfares lower than ever, travel operators are offering exciting and affordable package deals to the South Pacific.
Virginia is for lovers. California has all the girls. Beyond the City that Never Sleeps, what goes on in the rest of the state? A heck of a lot.

From Carol Alabaster: "Has anyone gone on a walking tour in Japan with Walk Japan Ltd.? Their Nakasendo Highway tour is included in the bestselling 1000 Places to Visit Before You Die, and sounds delightful. We know nothing about this company and would appreciate any comments and any information on other walking tours."
From Greg Walker: "Has anyone else had trouble with trying to book flights with NWA World Perks? Today I tried to book a flight from Winnipeg to Fort Lauderdale for October 1, 2005. They had nothing available. I could have the day before which would send me to Minneapolis, Indianapolis and finally Fort Lauderdale. That would depart at 6:40 and arrive at 17:45. I found it interesting that they had no seats left 10 months in advance. I was hoping for the Winnipeg - Minneapolis - Fort Lauderdale route but it seems that isn't available to World Perks members. I was told that I could book the flight I wanted if I paid $678 CAD per ticket. Fortunately I am also a member of Air Canada's Aeroplan and was able to book the seats from Winnipeg to Miami via Toronto on the days I wanted with no trouble."
From Paul Woz: "This will be a first time trip to Europe (Vienna) in July 2005. I will be leaving from Los Angeles and I am wondering if it is best to book a flight now or wair for price reductions in the near future? Do airlines discount prices, say, after the 1st of the year?"
In response to our previously published article, readers weigh in with their choices for hitting these lesser known -- and thus less expensive -- slopes..
From D. Barrett: "I will be in Madrid from 30 Dec-Jan3 and am just looking for ideas of things to do and places to be for New Years' Eve. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!"
