If your spirits start to drop just after the holidays when the lights come down and the dull gray and cold of winter is fully impressed on us, consider a change of venue to somewhere cheerier--and greener. Weeklong trips to Ireland--including your flight on Aer Lingus, B&B lodgings and a rental car with unlimited mileage--start from $483 for January through March travel from discounter CIE Tours International.
If you like real-life characters, you'll love William Kimi, aka Uncle Billy. He owns and operates two hotels down on the Big Island, along with a general store and a restaurant or two, and his reputation among locals and visitors is legendary. He swears that his properties are the only hotels owned by actual Hawaiians in Hawaii and promises that his staff is his family, though every guest becomes ohana (family), too. What's more, he has a special going now that runs to as little as $94 per room per night if you stay a full week.
Ernest Hemingway, lover of all things Spanish, visited and lived in Spain during all its seasons, including winter. He didn't worry overly much about pricing for his lodging, as some publication was usually footing the bill. You, too, can stop worrying about cost if you travel there this winter, under the auspices of AHI International, with weeklong "Escapades" from as little as $1,695 per person, hotel and airfare included.

From Catherine J. Ricci: "After spending a short time in Bali in August, 2002, I decided to return with my sister in October, 2002. We booked through a company called Sitos Tours and Travel. Upon arriving in Bali, we were met by our guide Anwar of PT.Multilintas EranUSA. Both my sister and I cannot say enough about this gentleman, he was extremely knowledgeable about both the Hindu and Muslim religions. His obvious love for the island of Bali and its history was infectious and made learning about this amazing and tranquil place interesting and fun. He was very informative, offering suggestions of places to visit and things to see, but he also told us what to avoid and gave us tips on shopping, restaurants, etc."
From Margery Linneken" "I had never used any line but Royal Caribbean. Then I received an Anniversary gift for a Scandinavian Cruise through Vantage on NCL Dream. The mini suite with ocean view was very comfortable and convenient on the Promenade Deck. Service was superb but you had to pay for every thing extra. We did enjoy the Free Style Dining as that was one thing we did not like on RCL being told when you can dine."
From Marianne Madyda: "Hotel was very nice but was not allowed to make a credit card call from my room. Is this something new? I will certainly keep this question in mind when I book another hotel. I won't pay their exhorbitant telephone rates."
From Annie Maguire: "We stayed in a truly great apartment in Paris with our children and know others will enjoy them. They are in the 7th where we felt very safe and free. Our apartment overlooked the Champ de Mars and the Eiffel tower so just sitting in the sunny living room was a treat. The kids loved playing in the park: pony rides, playgrounds, room to run. I liked shopping in the neighborhood: we ate many meals in the well-equipped kitchen. The apartment was really beautiful, I left with decorating ideas."
From Chella Smith: "When, if ever, will the airlines make an attempt to enforce the rules re carry-ons? I just got back from a trip to Spain and on all six segments there were people on with far in excess of the "allowable" carry-on limits. It is the fault of the airlines for not enforcing the well known rules."
