Who knew? It turns out that the new 2,620-passenger Queen Mary 2, which just made her grand debut in NYC a few weeks ago, is a great ship for families with children.
It's been a busy couple of weeks in Royal Caribbean land, with the debut of new ships and new ports and the refurbishment of two old warhorses.
In addition to today's regular bi-weekly list of the best bargains, we've come up with a more detailed description of some particularly intriguing cruises -- hitting such spots as Antarctica, Polynesia, Southeast Asia and the Ukraine. In this issue, we report on Disneyland's 50th anniversary cruises, new and refurbished ships, stand-up comedy competitions, golf, whales and more.

From Carol Stone: "Just back from the Mediterranean and would like to pass on a recommendation for a private driver in Naples, Italy. We used Salvatore of DriveAmalfi (driveamalfi@hotmail.com) for a fantastic full-day tour of Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. He was a true gentleman and a great driver."
From Smith Aaron: "I'm a senior citizen recovering from pneumonia and might have to have supplemental oxygen during a cruise. Does anyone have a similar need and/or experience? I'm also looking for experience with flying to get to port of embarcation. All sharing would be appreciated!"
From Linda Czarnecki: "Do most of the men wear jacket & tie to Captain's dinner on Viking cruises? If not, what's the most common outfit? We're on a Viking cruise from Amsterdam to Vienna on 5/27 & wonder if it's worth space & weight in bags to carry jacket. Thanks, Linda"
From Marie Kilker: "We have booked a cruise to Tahiti and other related islands and were just informed by our travel agent that the government of French Polynesia has imposed cruise and tourism taxes of U.S. $49 per person for visits there. Since we have already paid for our cruise, the extra amount is being charged to our shipboard account. We don't like this, but it is not the fault of the cruise line; we were informed as soon as it was informed. I just thought people considering French Polynesia as a destination would want to budget for this new fee."
From Jane Mullin: "We'll be taking a cruise on the Mexican Riviera in January. We're stopping in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan. Any suggestions for tours at any of these stops? We want to avoid the most touristy things, but would still like to see what's most important at each port."
