Many of our readers have taken advantage of the incredibly cheap bmi (formerly British Midlands Airways) fares out of airports around Britain for onward flights to the continent. Until now, most of them have had to trek out to outlying airports near London such as Luton, inconveniently located north of the capital, reachable by infrequent bus service directly from Heathrow Airport or by a couple of connections through London's in-town terminals for rail, bus and whatnot. This also added some expense to the transfer from transatlantic planes to bmi's marvelous services down to Spain, Italy, Greece or elsewhere on the European continent.

Now, however, bmi has landed (pun intended) some slots at prestigious Heathrow, London's favorite airport in terms of convenience, number of flights and location. (Gatwick comes second in this ranking.)

And the fares are as low as ever! Take a look at these one-way offers out of Heathrow to:

  • Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow or Manchester from $22
  • Amsterdam or Paris from $23
  • Brussels from $30
  • Dublin from $40
  • Madrid or Nice from $54
  • Milan's Linate Airport from $73

The fares are deliberately one-way so that you can mix and match itineraries without worrying about doubling back. There are no minimum stays, no Saturday-night requirements nor advance purchase requirements. (There is a maximum stay of one year, however.) Finally, if you travel in Y class (their premium economy fare), you get access to the bmi business lounges. You can even combine business and economy fares, one-way for each, for instance.
