Some airfares are indeed dropping, and we're here to tell you about 'em.
Southwest Airlines has announced ridiculously low one-way fares from $19 for travel out of several California airports to Las Vegas. Prices don't include taxes and security fees and you must book a minimum of a week in advance for travel from September 3 all the way up to January 10. Fares are based on roundtrip journeys, but even so, the full price from LA to Sin City is right around $55. Those of you who've been avoiding the airport and making the trek by car might want to reconsider. Complete details are available online at https://www.southwest.com/hotfares/genmkt_calif.html#fall. And don't forget about their affordable Disney packages we mentioned awhile ago or their Midwest sale.
Alaska Air is also offering discounts for roundtrip travel to Las Vegas, but this one's out of Seattle. Fares start from $158 roundtrip, and if you can fly by the end of August you can qualify for a voucher good for an additional roundtrip ticket out of Seattle to either Reno or Vegas. Tickets must be purchased by tomorrow, August 8. Full details here: https://www2.alaskaair.com/Promo/FarePromos/LASPlaneLowFare.asp.
Savings that have appeal to a wider audience are the extended sale fares from British Airways. That carrier is extending is summer sale through to this Thursday, August 8. That may seem like not a lot of time to make your plans, but in a nifty twist of marketing, BA is waving the usual rescheduling fees for changing your itinerary once you've booked your flight. Sale fares are valid for travel between August 28-December 15, but once you purchase your tickets, you can reschedule your trip for travel as late as March 31 of next year based on availability.
Roundtrip sample fares out of NYC include London from $350 and Paris from $468. Additional taxes and security fees can be as much as $99. However, you can save an additional $20 by purchasing online. Details at https://www.britishairways.com/summerextend/index.shtml.
