jetBlue Barrel Fares To and From Houston Hobby

jetBlue Airways (tel. 800/538-2583; www.jetblue.com) is offering a unique promotion on its new route to the "Energy Capital of the World." For one week ending Monday August 21, jetBlue is using the price of a barrel of oil at each day's market close on the NY Mercantile Exchange to determine the one-way fare before taxes between Houston's convenient Hobby Airport and the cities below:

  • Burlington, VT
  • New York JFK
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • Portland, ME
  • Richmond, VA
  • Rochester, NY
  • Syracuse, NY
  • Washington, D.C. (Dulles)

On August 15 and 16, 2006, the fare was $73 one-way. Today, August 17, 2006 the fare has fallen to $71 based on yesterday's fall in oil prices. We will list all of these fares on Airfarewatchdog.com.

Two-day Atlanta Sale

AirTran Airways (tel. 800/247-8726; www.airtran.com) is having a two day sale on flights to and from its Atlanta hub with fares starting as low as $49 one-way (round-trip purchase not required). Here are some sample one-way fares before taxes and fees:

We expect other airlines to match this sale on many routes, although they may require a round-trip purchase.

Deals to San Pedro Sula, Santo Domingo and Sao Paul

Delta Air Lines (tel. 800/221-1212; www.delta.com) has discounted some additional International routes from Atlanta and New York-JFK. However, seats are difficult to find. Here are some sample fares including taxes and fees:

Depart September 14, Return September 21

  • Atlanta to San Pedro Sula, Honduras: $561 vs. $588 on American
  • Atlanta to Santo Domingo, DR: $475 vs. $483 on Spirit Air

Depart September 27, Return October 17

  • New York to Sao Paulo, Brazil: $887 vs. $894 on American

So although these fares have been more or less matched by at least one other airline, Delta is offering nonstop flights. Depart between September 1, 2006 and September 30, 2006. Complete travel by October 30, 2006. Fares shown are valid for travel Monday through Thursday. Other travel days are available at additional cost. Book your ticket by August 29, 2006.

Nonstop Miami to Buenos Aires

LAN (tel. 866/435-9526; www.lan.com) is having a sale on nonstop flights between Miami and Buenos Aires. Seats are very easy to find, and indeed LAN often has the lowest fares from its US gateways to its South American destinations. Below are some sample fares including taxes and fees:

Depart August 23, Return September 5

  • Miami to Buenos Aires: $464 vs. next lowest $824 on US Airways

Depart November 29, Return December 6

  • Miami to Buenos Aires: $464 with Aerolineas Argentinas matching

As you can see these are very good fares for August travel and are being matched in some cases by Aerolineas Argentinas. However if you book online at www.lan.com, there is an automatic 3 percent discount that reduces fares even further. Travel between August 16, 2006 and December 13, 2006. Book your ticket by September 4, 2006.
