Repeating a popular program from last year, Amtrak is bringing back its One-Two-Three discount. Tickets must be purchase by April 30, 20032 good for travel through August 28, 2003. Since Congress has relented and finally given Amtrak the transfusion of cash it needs to keep going, I suggest you take the train while it's still around. It's more fun than flying, anyhow.

The deal works like this. You buy your first fare at full price, get a second ticket at half price and a third ticket free. This amounts to a 50% discount for each of the three riders. If you want to be alone and ride solo, you still get 25% off.

To get the One-Two-Three discount, use code H270 when prompted by the reservations system. Certain trains are excluded from this offer, including Acela Express and Metroliner services.

To get the Single Discount of 25%, use discount code H305.

The 25% off is valid for the best available regular (full) adult fare or senior, disabled & Student Advantage discounted rail fare, and up to two accompanying children (aged 2 to 15) can travel at half off discounted fare. (Kids, by the way, travel at 50% off every day, when accompanied by an adult).

The One-Two-Three deal is valid when the first qualifying rail fare is regular (full) fare, senior or disabled or Student Advantage discounted rail fare, 2nd rail fare is 50% off the regular (full) adult rail fare and third rail fare is free (no kid discount for this third one).

The offers are valid for purchase from now through April 30, 2003, and travel from now through August 28, 2003. Blackout dates are April 17 to 21, 2003, May 23 to 27, 2003, and July 3 to 7, 2003. Three-day advance reservations required prior to travel. There are other restrictions, so check out the Web site, www.amtrak.com, for further details.
