Hertz Doubles the Fun Again, This Time With a Double Upgrade

May 18, 2004 -- Someone at Hertz is obsessed with the number two. First they started a double-coupon promotion we reported on last month. Now they're offering double upgrades. From Hertz, that's an even better deal than from a cheaper car rental company, as Hertz prides themselves on offering really nice cars.

The offer works like this:

  • Rent a Compact (like a Ford Focus), get an upgrade to a Special Sporty (like a Mustang).
  • Rent a Mid-Size (like a Mazda 6), get an upgrade to a Full Size (like a Taurus).
  • Rent a Special Sporty, get an upgrade to a Premium (like a Mercury Grand Marquis).

There are very few restrictions on this deal. You must be 25, and you must be renting and returning your car at the same location. You also have to reserve your car 24 hours before you collect it. And you can't use any other coupons to lower the price of your rental.

The deal comes courtesy of discount airline JetBlue (www.jetblue.com), so tip your hat to them. You don't have to fly on JetBlue to get the deal, though. You do have to print out this Web page: www.jetblue.com/travelinfo/traveldeals/hertz_offer_942874.html.

Don't reserve your car through that page. You can get much lower rates from Hertz's own Web site, www.hertz.com. Click on "Rates and Reservations" near the top of Hertz's home page. When you get to the reservation form, enter 942874 in the Promotional Coupon (PC) Number field. Reserve your car, print out the confirmation form, and bring your confirmation form and the printout of the JetBlue Web page to the check-in counter when you go to collect your car.

If they have any bigger cars available, you'll get your double upgrade.
