April 2, 2004 -- Every spring, flocks of honking geese wend their way north from their winter resting places in Florida. So do flocks of honking rental cars -- and that trend means savings for anyone driving from the Sunshine State to the Northeast.
Hertz's annual Florida Drive Out program offers super-low rates for one-way rentals from anywhere in Florida to 24 Northeast and Mid-Atlantic destinations. Your rate includes unlimited mileage, there's no drop-off fee, and it applies to rental periods from 2 to 14 days. You must reserve your car at least 24 hours in advance, and travel between April 18 and June 28.
The following rates are fabulous.
- Economy-sized cars (that's small, not big) are $9.99/day or $69.99/week.
- Compact cars are $14.99/day or $88.99/week.
- Mid-sized vehicles are $19.99/day or $98.99/week.
- Sportscars are $24.99/day or $104.99/week.
- Full-sized vehicles are $29.99/day or $109.99/week.
The savings are enormous. When we tested five-day May trips from Orlando and Miami to Providence and Burlington, we found rates of $280 and above (before taxes and fees) on major travel agency Web sites. A comparable trip with this Hertz deal would be $50. You can't beat that.
