Rent a Car from Auto Europe Just for the Halibut

Auto Europe's a great discounter, but occasionally they do something really fishy.

That's understandable -- they're based in Portland, Maine, where their headquarters is about 75 feet from wharves where some of the best seafood in America is pulled out of the Atlantic. So in a move showing their Maine pride, they're offering chunks of premium seafood to their premium customers.

Here's the fish story: rent a luxury, prestige, or sports car, or a Mercedes-Benz E240 or better for at least seven days, and you'll get six Maine lobsters, three pounds of salmon, four pounds of haddock or three pounds of swordfish. (We'd go for the lobsters or the swordfish.)

If you buy a Business Class airline ticket from Auto Europe, you can get three lobsters, or two pounds of salmon, haddock or swordfish.

Obviously, fish is perishable, so the sea creatures will be shipped to you via FedEx in a refrigerated container when you get home from Europe. It's a little like Omaha Steaks, except with fish, and not from Omaha. (We understand -- that's sensible -- but for a moment, we had an image of being dressed up like James Bond, grilling swordfish by the side of the road in France with a Ferrari parked nearby.)

This is a very, very strange deal, but also very charming. You could say it caught us hook, line and sinker. So take the bait and call 888/223-5555 or go to www.autoeurope.com to book.
