Seniors Get a Break in Norway

Hurtigruten (tel. 800/323-7436; www.hurtigruten.us) is rewarding seniors over age 60 with a 10% discount when sailing along the 1,250-mile Norwegian coastline of stunning fjords and quaint fishing villages. The deal can be combined with offers including: "10% Repeater Discount" for passengers who sailed on any Hurtigruten ship in the past three years; AARP discounts where members receive a $50 shipboard credit on 12-day cruises or $35 on the six- and seven-day sailings; and "Welcome Back Discount" where passengers booking a future cruise within five weeks of their last voyage receive a NOK 2,000 (US$320) onboard credit. Six-, seven- and 12-day cruise-only fares, with the senior savings, range from $1,085 to $6,404 per person, double; combined with the "Repeater Discount," the range is $964 to $5,692. The offer applies to new bookings for sailing from Jan.1 - April 15 and Sept. 15 - Dec. 31, 2010. No deadlines or black-out days are in effect.

Each of the company's modern ships has lots of windows and outdoor deck space for scenery viewing and the onboard vibe is casual and focused on the beautiful landscape and sights. The ships make 34 port calls between the Hanseatic port of Bergen and Kirkenes, close to the Russian border. Small fishing villages in the rugged Lofoten Islands, Art Nouveau Alesund, the ancient Viking capital of Trondheim and Norway's "Paris of the North" Tromso are just some of the highlights.

Bring a Friend on the House

Uniworld (tel. 800/733-7820; www.uniworld.com) is offering free companion airfares on eight of Europe river cruises in 2010 if booked and paid in full by Feb. 26, 2010. Uniworld is giving each travel companion a free air ticket for international economy travel to Europe from New York when the first traveler pays Uniworld's 2010 published brochure rates. The only item that the companion traveler is required to pay is government taxes and fees of up to $159 per person. Low air add-on prices from other US and Canadian gateways are available, such as $80 per person from Chicago; $160 per person from Los Angeles; and $200 per person from Toronto.

The Europe itineraries range from 14 to 32 days, and include programs such as European Serenade from Vienna to Amsterdam; the Legendary Rhine and Moselle from Amsterdam to Basel; European Jewels from Budapest to Amsterdam; and Eastern Europe Explorer from Vienna to Bucharest.
