Celebrity Cruises is considered by many constant travelers to be one of the top lines, especially in the Caribbean, which can get crowded with crafts at times. The line's ships have been described as elegant without being stuffy and fun without being vulgar. They are taking one of their newer ships, the Millennium, around the islands on a newly-designed itinerary starting in April, for prices that begin at just $999 per person, sharing a double room.

The "Ultimate Caribbean" cruise lasts 10 or 11 nights. The 10-night version (roughly the Eastern Caribbean) starts from the ships' Ft. Lauderdale home port, sails to Philipsburg in St. Maarten, then to Castries in St. Lucia, Bridgetown in Barbados, Basseterre on St. Kitts, St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands and home again.

The 11-night version (the Western Caribbean), at the same price, departs Ft. Lauderdale, going first to Key West, then to Cozumel in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, Puerto Limon in Costa Rica, Colon (at the eastern end of the Panama Canal), Cartagena in Colombia, Oranjestad in Aruba, Georgetown in the Grand Caymans and back to home port.

In addition to being fun and elegant, the Celebrity ships are known for their outstanding food and service, as well as for well-equipped and innovative spas and gyms. Entertainment is also considered well above average within the industry.

Prices are for the cruise only (you have to provide your own airfare to Ft. Lauderdale, but the line can give you some advice on this). Staterooms available at this rate are limited and are available only on select sailings, so you should act swiftly. Government taxes and fees are extra. Certain restrictions apply.

To book a stateroom or for more information, phone the cruise line at 800/CELEBRITY, or go to their Web site, www.celebritycruises.com.
