From now through March 31, 2002, the world's largest hotel chain, Best Western, is running a promotion called BestRates. Since each hotel in the chain is independently owned and operated, only (!) 2300 properties in North America are participating.

You can get hefty reductions in price at these Best Westerns, a mere sampling of which follows below (for the southeastern US states only, but, remember, the promotion is good throughout the USA and Canada). Prices are per room per night, and are for weekday standard rooms. Rates may vary on weekends and are subject to change and availability. Taxes, service charges, gratuities and other incidental expenses are not included. Blackout dates may apply.

In Florida, check out elegant Boca Raton at $89, unpredictable Key West at $144, dignified Lakeland at $69, romantic St. Pete Beach for $130, bustling St. Pete Treasure Island at $85, or surprising Tampa from $75. In Georgia, there are 9 hotels in the Atlanta area, with room rates ranging from $39 to $65, while over at fabulous St. Simons Island the cost is $68.

In all, there are 29 participating properties in Alabama (from 40 to $62), five in Delaware (from $39 to $64), 82 in Florida (from $35 to $189), 55 in Georgia (from $37 to $104), 32 in Kentucky ($34 to $70), 12 in Maryland ($28 to $79), 28 in Mississippi (from $39 to $55), 45 in North Carolina (from $36 to $76), 17 in South Carolina (from $32 to $86), 38 in Tennessee (from $29 to $65), 35 in Virginia ($34 to $66) and 13 in Washington DC ($49 to $104).

For more information or to make reservations, phone them at 800/WESTERN or go to their Web site, which is www.bestwestern.com.
