In New York, the Flatotel, the awkwardly-named establishment right in the heart of Manhattan's midtown, has two summer packages available on any day arrival from June 15th to September 3rd:
The "Family Fun" deal features a one-bedroom suite (suitable for sleeping up to four with existing bedding), a 15% discount (on food only) at the hotel's new restaurant (Moda, which has a large outdoor dining galleria) and discounts at many of the city's major stores and attractions, including Bloomingdale's, Rockefeller Center and Mickey Mantle's. It is priced at $199 per night, excluding taxes and tips. The one-bedroom 1,200 square-foot suites include a full kitchen and living/dining area.
The $169 "Summer in the City" package offers a deluxe single or double bedroom, one certificate per person for a drink at Moda in the lobby bar or the outdoor galleria, discounts and savings at several restaurants and stores (including Rockefeller Center and Macy's), and a continental breakfast.
The hotel (combining "flat" and "hotel" in its name, in case you're still flummoxed by "Flatotel") is located in the heart of midtown at 135 W. 52nd Street. Each room has a Sony Wega flat screen TV, VCR, CD player, microwave, refrigerator, hi-speed Internet connection, and laptop compatible in-room safe and data port, among other amenities.

Out in San Francisco, the lovely old Hotel Majestic is having a cute centennial celebration, during which guests checking in on three special weekends can get any of its 58 rooms (including 9 luxurious suites) for just $100 per night. That's a savings of $85 to $275 (!) per night, depending on which type of room you get. The weekends in 2002 are May 31-June 1, August 9-10 and November 8-9.
The hotel, an Edwardian jewel in the Pacific Heights section of the city, is the first San Francisco hotel to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The rooms are available on a first-come, first-served, basis, so you can bet the suites will go quickly! They are furnished with French Empire and English antiques, custom furniture and gorgeous fabrics.
To add frosting on the cake, there's another offer, this one completely free. The guest who reserves the last room for each weekend will get it free, and will also receive a $100 certificate to use in the hotel's elegant Perlot restaurant. The restaurant is also having an elegant, 3-course menu for just $19.02, offered in addition to the regular menu. Dishes from 100 years ago include Oysters Rockefeller, oxtail soup, Waldorf salad, Cornish game hen, and a hearty pot roast with roasted mashed potatoes.
The hotel was spared from the great earthquake of 1906 and its fires. Contact them at 800/869-8966 or 415/441-1100, fax 415/673-7331, e-mail info@thehotelmajestic.com, online at www.thehotelmajestic.com.
