Like Old Faithful, the regularly gushing natural fountain of hot water in Yellowstone National Park, the Lodges there are repeating their Early Bird Special rates for this summer. You have to book by April 1 in order to get these rates, which represent savings of up to 43 percent, and hurry, as reservations are already coming in.

You can stay in Yellowstone at one of the five lodges owned by Amfax, which operates them, for as little as $39 per night for a room or cabin (plus tax) and that's for either single or double occupancy.

The reduced rates (after discount) and available dates remaining are:

  • Old Faithful Inn (May 10-16). Historic room (no private bath) $39; premium room $89 to $119; semi-suite $159; suite $199.
  • Old Faithful Snow Lodge (May 3-16). Lodge room $99.
  • Grant Village (May 24-30). Rooms from $69 to $79.
  • Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel (May 3-16). Room with no private bath $39; budget cabin $39; frontier cabin $69; regular room $69; suite $159.
  • Lake Yellowstone Hotel (May 17-23). Back room $99; front room $109.

There are also occasional unadvertised specials on the Yellowstone Web site (www.travelyellowstone.com), and you can go there or phone 307/344-7311 for more information and reservations.

Amfax also operates concessions, including lodgings, at these other locations: Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Death Valley, Petrified Forest, Everglades, Mount Rushmore, all of which are national parks or memorials.
