We told you recently about the freebie stay in Fort Lauderdale hotels on September 11 when you pay for a consecutive night. No surprise here that the response was strong with rooms being snatched up all over Broward County (yes, that Broward County of the 2000 election fiasco)--so strong, in fact, that the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau has decided to keep a good thing going all the way through October 15.
The rules have changed slightly, however. Unlike the original promotion, this deal is currently available only to ticketed passengers on Spirit Airlines, the city's budget carrier who spearheaded the trend of September 11 travel deals. (For a current deal and news on Spirit, click here.) And the room is free only when you pay for two consecutive nights, for a minimum of a three-night stay. Finally, the number of participating hotels has dropped off slightly, but only by about 10 percent--there are still plenty to choose from and a list is available online at www.sunny.org. They're also sponsoring a contest giveaway for free airfare on Spirit.
