"Summer Magic" Means $82 Hotel Rates in Europe

With some travelers still nervous about flying off to Europe these days, hotel operators there are lowering prices in the hope that a good deal will convince Americans to travel across the pond. Setting the example is the Radisson chain, a highly respected firm connected to the squeaky-clean SAS airline group, which now has room rates as low as $82 from June 1 through August 31, 2002.

We should say "about" $82, as the official prices are in Euros, and the exchange rate fluctuates daily, but with the Euro being worth about 90 US cents these days, 95 of them equals about 82 greenbacks. That's the rate, by the way, at the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel in Helsinki. (All rates are per room, per night, and can be for one or two persons).

Even better, this 30% discount includes breakfast at over 100 properties in 37 countries. As a part of their "Summer Magic" program up to two children under 17 can stay free in the same room as the parents. Valid any day of the week, no minimum stay required, and subject to availability, of course.

At check-in, children get also get activity book featuring Pippi Longstocking, allowing them to create their own stories and adventures. The properties also feature playrooms and children's menus, among other amenities for the kids.

Sample rates at other Radisson SAS hotels include:

Plaza in Oslo, from €128 ($113)
Falconer in Copenhagen, from €135 ($119)
St. Helen's in Dublin, from €140 ($123)
Radisson SAS in Brussels, from €159 ($140)
Montfleury in Cannes, from €165 ($145)
Radisson SAS in Nice, from €170 ($150).

The highest rates are in Paris at €235, ($207), London at €238 ($210) and St. Petersburg at €300 ($265).

For reservations, phone 800/333-3333 or visit their Web site, www.radissonas.com. Look for the yellow "Summer Magic" search box.
