As the U.S. dollar continues to weaken overseas, it can thank Canada for allowing it to gain strength there, difficult as that may be for our peaceful neighbors to the north. So it is even more cost effective right now to visit the Land of the Maple Leaf. The rate at the time of this writing is CDN $1.58 to every U.S. $1, giving American travelers a big price advantage North of the Border.
A good example of the kind of savings you will find there is at the Muskoka Sands Resort, located about 90 minutes' drive north of Toronto. They offer weekend fall specialty programs for wine and cheese lovers, gourmet foodies, fans of water coloring, and photographers, to name a few. These are priced from $263 per person (sharing a double) for a two-night package including lodging, two breakfasts & one dinner, a welcome reception and the organized theme program.
The resort offers a midweek fall golf package (good through October 26th) from $110 per person per night, sharing a double, for lodge rooms, and two-bedroom suite condos sleeping four adults. Prices include lodging and a round of golf with cart. On weekends, the prices in the same lodgings are $129 per person. Last June, Canada's newest championship 18-hole course, Taboo, was opened on the grounds of the resort. The par 72, 7,144-yard course was designed by Ron Garl.
Room-only prices are great bargains, starting at $42 per person per night (sharing a double), from October 17 through December 19, 2002. Children 16 and under stay free sharing a room with two adults. Taxes and a 6% service charge are extra, although the GST (General Sales Tax) is refundable to U.S. citizens.
Muskoka Sands is a lakeside golf resort, spa and conference center located on 1,200 parkland acres, with a wide range of lakeside and seasonal activities, including an all-season multi-use trail system, a spa and tennis.
