Too Cool for School: Get a Jump on Ski-Lessons, Lodgings Included, by Booking Early

Now is the right time to plan for the winter ski season, but if you're not quite sure of yourself on the slopes, you may want to get an edge on others by studying technique at the Beaver Creek Ski School in Colorado. One-week packages are priced at $1,700 per person based on double occupancy the first week, rising to $1,850 the remaining two sessions. Single occupancy packages are also available. The first session is from December 2 to 7, others being December 8-13 and 15-20, 2002.

For the prices mentioned, you get five nights' deluxe accommodations (sharing a double room) at the Park Hyatt, with breakfast daily; four days of skiing and personalized instruction with Cory Carlson and a hand-selected teaching team from the Vail/Beaver Creek Ski School; lift tickets for four days, interchangeable between Vail, Beaver Creek, Arrowhead and Bachelor Gulch; complete skiing evaluation with improvements clearly identifiable with the use of on-hill video; on-slope videotape analysis; a welcome dinner; aprés-ski events/parties; three dinners; and free use of the health club facilities.

The personalized instruction is given with a 1 to 5 teacher-student ratio or less. You get a video to take home showing how you ski. In addition to one-on-one coaching, every day features small group clinics designed to build skill and confidence. Instruction takes place on a variety of terrain and conditions and includes balance, speed control, technique, skiing through gates and performance turns.

Cory Carlson competed for seven years for the U.S. Ski Team on the World Cup circuit, and has appeared as a technical commentator on NBC, ESPN, Outdoor Life Network and other spots. The Park Hyatt is winner of Gourmet Magazine's Best Hotel for Skiing honors and is listed by Travel & Leisure as one of the top 50 hotels in the world.
