Still can't get The Beatles out of your mind? Can't live without them? You can retrace their glory in a "Footsteps of the Beatles" package being offered by Trafalgar Tours, the eminently respectable British firm, departing from London on August 24 and September 14. Per person price, based on sharing a double room, is $925, land only, including breakfast daily, roundtrip airport transfers in London, four dinners, a tour director to look after you and all service charges & taxes.
Trafalgar says you can experience the childhood sites that provided the inspiration for some of the Beatles' lyrics. You spend four nights in London, three in Liverpool, hometown of the Fab Four. Highlights include Abbey Road in London, and, in Liverpool, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, Eleanor Rigby's tomb and The Cavern, where the Beatles performed early in their career with the fifth Beatle, Stu Sutcliffe.
There is a single supplement of $445, and the children's rate being only $299 for those aged 5 to 12 sharing a room with two full-paying passengers. Trafalgar isn't sure how potent the Beatles' allure still is, saying that a minimum of 30 passengers is required for the tour to operate.
More prosaic packages from Trafalgar include an air-land trip to Madrid, Seville and the Costa del Sol for nine nights, escorted, with nine breakfasts and two dinners, starting at $1,540 from New York (per person sharing a double room). Departures from now through October 10, 2002.
Also consider an eight-night Dolce Vita package to Milan and Lake Como, Lake Garda, Venice and the Italian Lake District. Prices from New York start at $1,605 including air, eight buffet breakfasts and six three-course dinners. Departures are from now through October 10.
