Flying Down to Rio For Five Nights, $599

Consistently reliable discounter Sunny Land Tours has just announced a new seven-day/five-night special to Rio de Janeiro, featuring weekly Tuesday departures from New York's JFK through November 2002. The package sells for just $599 per person based on double occupancy. Single supplements run $278.

The deal includes roundtrip air from JFK to Rio on Varig's non-stop service, five nights at the Ibiza Hotel with daily Brazilian breakfast, roundtrip transfers between airport and hotel, and a city tour including a trip up to the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado. The Ibiza is a moderately-rated lodging just three blocks from the well known Copacabana Palace Hotel.

Add $30 for Monday or Wednesday departures, or $80 for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can also upgrade your hotel at an extra charge, if you like.

The rates mentioned are per person based on double occupancy and do not include airport taxes and security charges, as well as a 10% fee covering Brazilian VAT (Value Added Taxes) and service charges.

Sunny Land has been in business since 1964 and is a member of the US Tour Operators Association (USTOA), which has a $1 Million Consumer Protection Plan, guaranteeing, among other things, that you won't get stranded if the tour operator and/or airline carrying you abroad goes belly up, financially speaking. The company also has tours to Greece and Turkey in Europe, Jordan and Egypt in the Middle East, Morocco in Africa, and in Latin America, destinations from the Galapagos Islands to Costa Rica, Peru & The Amazon, Chile and Argentina, and Guatemala.
