Go-Today (tel. 800/227-3235; www.go-today.com) is known for its rock-bottom prices on independent trips, and it seems to particularly excel with those to Europe. It is offering a big discount on trips this fall, and this one to for six nights in Barcelona caught our attention.
Priced from $599, the trip covers roundtrip airfare from New York-JFK or Newark, New Jersey and includes airline fuel surcharges, hotel taxes and service charges, and continental breakfast. Other departures are possible for an additional price, and as advertised, the price reflects travel November 1-December 20. The trip is offered now September 14 through June 2010, at varying price points, with the highest cost for May and June; prices start form $1,249. In order to take advantage of this price, you must book by December 30. Accommodations at this price point are pretty modest -- described as tourist class and located about ten minutes away from the city center. You can upgrade to other hotels, such as Marina Barcelona, which is a five-minute walk to the beach.
Barcelona offers its visitors a culturally concentrated experience of Spain -- beautiful architecture, including the ongoing restoration of Gaudi's Basilica, unparalleled art (it's the home of Picasso), flamenco, and a vibrant restaurant scene. If you want to relax, its beaches are a top draw, too.
