Latin Destinations (tel. 866/645-2846; www.latindestinations.com) brings us this week's smart deal to Costa Rica for ten nights from $949 ($1,009 with taxes). It's a fairly independent trip that covers your international airfare, transfers to and from the hotel, transfers among the five destinations, breakfast, all hotel taxes and ten nights of accommodations spread out, as the company calls the package "from the Caribbean to the Pacific."
Costa Rica is a diverse destination, and the package gives you a taste of it all. The itinerary includes one night in San Jose, two apiece in Tortuguero, Arenal, and Monteverde, and three in Guanacaste beaches. It's customizable, though, so if you want to spend more time on the country's resort-laden gold coast (Guanacaste) or more time in the cloud forest reserve, for example, in Monteverde or exploring the national park, volcano included, in Arenal, or the national park in Tortuguero, full of canals, rain forests and lots and lots of wildlife.
Calculations for the lowest advertised price for this trip are based on Miami, Florida departures on May 15. This packager makes available the price history for the itinerary for the past two weeks, so you can see that it actually went lower at some points (departures from Baltimore for just seven days were priced at $909 with tax). Additionally you can select from possible three-to-five star rated hotels, some smaller and others large American chains. As with most smart deals, the price is based on double occupancy and midweek departures; it does not include air taxes and/or other government fees or delivery charges
