Gate 1 Travel (tel. 800/682-3333; www.gate1travel.com) has put together an affordable escorted package to Peru starting from $1,069, inclusive of six nights' accommodations and round-trip airfare from Miami. The price is also based on travel that you must book by June 13 in order to save $200 per person. The lowest advertised price reflects the travel departure date August 27. Summertime departures, of which there are several -- June 25, July 2 & 23 and August 6 -- are priced at $1,139. Overall, the trip includes roundtrip airfare, airline fuel surcharges, six nights of accommodations, intra-Peru flights, seven meals, sightseeing per itinerary in an air-conditioned coach and the services of a English speaking tour guide and local guides.
The itinerary includes an arrival in Lima with some leisure time at your disposal on the first day, and your first overnight in the capital city. On the second day, you'll fly to Cusco and check into the hotel. In the afternoon, you'll take a tour of the city that includes highlights such as Korikancha, the old town, Kenko, and Sacsayhuaman -- describe. After touring, the next day's activities are at your discretion; Gate 1 offers suggestions such as train rides to Machu Picchu. After that, the balance of the trip is spent in Lima, for a tour of the city, along with visits to a local craftsperson's home workshop and a goldsmith's workshop. On the final evening in Lima guests are treated to a farewell dinner and a performance of Peruvian folk dances.
The price does not include September 11 fees and airport taxes. The land only price (which is priced at $699 on sale for all dates) does not include roundtrip airfare from the United States to Peru, but it does include intra-Peru flights between Lima and Cusco. The sale price advertised reflects Plan B, but you can upgrade to different accommodations in Plan A for approximately another $400 per person.
