European Destinations
(tel. 877/267-2247; www.europeandestinations.com) is offering a great deal that's extremely customizable. It's a six-day trip to Italy that takes in three of Italy's popular, distinctive cities -- Rome, Florence, and Venice -- and starts from $819 per person, based on double occupancy. The price includes round-trip international airfare, two nights apiece in the aforementioned cities, daily breakfast (if the hotel provides it), train transportation from city to city, and hotel taxes. The lowest advertised price also reflects travel in mid-November -- not high season -- but you can take the trip anytime you want. One of the things we like about this company is that its itineraries are a thoughtful suggestions, but you can change the number of nights you spend in each city if you like. And you can see that there are hundreds of hotels to choose from within the company's database when you're putting the trip together. Another useful tool in helping you plan your vacation comes in the form of its price history. European Destinations shows the pricing for the trip based on bookings in the last two weeks. So for example, you can see that someone booked the trip from Baltimore for six nights, for $773 per person, and that another traveler booked the trip from Los Angeles, with the base price at $875. Keep in mind that these prices may go up considerably depending on where you are flying from -- the airline fuel surcharges are not included -- but if you're flying, say, from the New York metro area, you can see by viewing the itinerary history that the surcharges add about another $200 to the base price.
