It's not always easy to find an inexpensive travel package to Scandinavia, home of the world's highest standards of living. Continental Journeys is offering five-day (three-night) weekend getaways from just $499 per person, airfare included. And winter is the best time to enjoy the cultural arts in Scandinavia, with music, theater and art seasons all in full swing.
$499 is the price you will pay for a Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) flight to Helsinki and Stockholm, with Thursday night departures from Newark, three nights at a tourist-class hotel, buffet breakfast daily, hotel taxes and service charges. The deal is available from now through March 31, 2003.
Add-on fares are $30 from Washington Dulles and Chicago, $120 from Minneapolis. Other add-ons are available from cities in United Airlines' system, too. Extra nights and December 19 departures are not available, and airport taxes are not included.
You can fly from Newark to Copenhagen, Oslo and Bergen from $515, from other gateways at appropriate add-on prices. It's possible also to upgrade your hotels for Helsinki and Stockholm to first-class from $525 to $599, to deluxe from $659 to $849. The lowest price ranges for hotels are in Helsinki, from $499 to $659.
Departures are on Thursdays, returns on Mondays. Single supplements cost $89 to $145 for tourist class hotels, $110 to $188 for first class, and $155 to $365 for deluxe.
You can visit the three Scandinavian Capitals of Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo in a nine-day package with prices from $1,139 to $2,058. You spend two nights each in the three capitals, and travel between them on the train, with reserved seat, and have an overnight cruise.
The company has a lot of winter packages (88, to be exact), going to 18 countries, including 26 to Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, with special packages to Christmas and New Year's vacations, and city stays. Another seven packages explore Iceland.
