Who knew? Toronto, once considered good but boring, is now the third largest theater center in the English-speaking world after London and New York. If you love the stage--and shopping and dining out--consider taking Air Canada up on its offers of "Toronto Inns" packages, which can cost as little as $425 per person for four nights, including air from New York City.
On this package, you stay at one of three B&Bs or inn: the Bourneview Manor B&B, the Burwood Inn or the House on McGill. Breakfasts are included at all three. The price assumes two persons in a room, of course. Better yet, the package includes car rental for $80 more, a trolley tour of Toronto, and all taxes. (In summer, the price for the same package is $475 per person.)
Slightly higher is the Toronto Rambler package, also for four nights, in which you stay at the luxurious Fairmont Royal York Hotel. This is $525 per person, also including air from New York City.
These packages are also available from Air Canada's other U.S. gateway cities. For Chicago departure, for example, add $35 to the New York City departure price. From Atlanta, add $90, from Los Angeles or San Francisco, add $140.
Other programs in the Ontario region include a four-night Great Lakes and Historical Inns of Southern Ontario, priced at $495 per person; a four-night Toronto and Niagara package at $495; a five-night Muskoka Magic package at $595; and a seven-night Toronto-Ottawa Capital Cities package at $880. All programs include the roundtrip airfare from New York City, lodging, rental car and taxes.
